and if you’re reading this, chances are you’re a little curious about Tasmania’s past. Good news: so am I.
I grew up in an old Georgian sandstone building on a farm just outside Richmond, Tasmania — a place built by convict hands back in 1829. When you grow up surrounded by that kind of history, it seeps into you. You can't help but feel connected to the people who came before.
I enjoy travelling, but everywhere I go only makes me appreciate just how beautiful, unique, and rich in history my island home really is. It also opened my eyes to my own family’s story — turns out I have 17 direct convict ancestors, each with wild and fascinating tales of survival, struggle, and (sometimes) a little bit of rebellion.
After my wife and I had our first child, we figured it was time to get serious — so we started a tour company. In the early days, I personally guided nearly every tour. What I found? Guests loved hearing the personal stories about my ancestors' lives in colonial Van Diemen’s Land. And I loved telling them.
That’s when I decided to focus on private history tours of Tasmania, blending the broader convict and Indigenous history with my own family’s journey. It’s personal, it's real, and it offers something you won’t find in your average guidebook.
I cater to small private groups — from hotel guests to cruise ship travellers — and I also offer specialized tours for genealogy enthusiasts, historians, or anyone with convict ancestry of their own. If you're chasing waterfalls, mountains, wildlife sanctuaries, gourmet food, or vineyard hopping? Been there, guided that — I can customize your trip to fit what you love.
My goal is simple: to share the stories of struggle, survival, and triumph that shaped Tasmania, through the lens of real people — my people — and create a tour that’s meaningful, personal, and unforgettable.
If that sounds like your kind of adventure, get in touch. I’d love to chat and help put together something special for you.
